The OpenVPN generator is only available for Premium customers. Freemium users can use OpenVPN only through the PrivadoVPN app

1. Log in to your Privado Admin area, navigate to the Dashboard tab, scroll down the page to 'Manual Configuration' and select 'OpenVPN'

2. Select your preferred server and OpenVPN file configuration (UDP/TCP, port, Scramble):

UDP is a better choice for live video and audio or online games where speed is more important than potential data loss. We also offer UDP ports 1194, 443, 8080, and 8443 in cases when your ISP or local transit carrier throttles certain ports.

TCP is the better option if you are having issues maintaining a stable connection or need increased security of connection without packet loss. It is also recommended for countries with restrictive Internet. We also offer TCP ports 1194, 443, 8080, and 8443 in case your ISP or local transit carrier throttles certain ports.

Scramble helps to disguise and hide VPN traffic. This is especially useful in network environments that restrict OpenVPN traffic/ports. ** The Scramble option is supported by DD-WRT firmware (builds 24698 to 30487 and 47850+). So you can use any router that can be flashed with this firmware. The list of supported routers and DD-WRT firmware builds you can find here.

3. Click the 'Generate configuration' button and download the generated OpenVPN configuration file:

4. Next, access your router's web interface by entering the router's gateway IP address into the address bar of your preferred browser. The default IP is usually 192.168.8.1

If you haven't changed the login details, the default username and password should be 'admin'.

If that doesn’t work, you can find the correct password on the label of your router.

5. After logging in, locate the VPN settings and select 'OpenVPN client' > 'Add a New OpenVPN Configuration':

6. In the next window insert the server configuration file you downloaded earlier in Step 3.

A new window will appear, confirming the successful file upload. Proceed by entering your PrivadoVPN credentials.

You can copy the credentials from this page: https://app.privado.live/en/admin-panel.

7. After completing the steps, click 'Submit' to save the OpenVPN configuration:

8. A new VPN profile will be added under the OpenVPN section. If you have multiple VPN profiles, click the arrow icon to open the drop-down menu and select the one you just created (in our example it's 'akl-006.default').

Finally, click the 'Connect' button.
